The Twin Rinks Ice Center At Eisenhower Park
Six insulated metal panel profiles (IMP) in various colors were chosen for Twin Rinks Ice Center at Eisenhower Park on Long Island to meet the building's operational, aesthetic, and project schedule requirements. The 165,000-square-foot structure has two professional league-sized hockey rinks. IMPs help to keep the ice rinks at the proper temperature.
The project included 7.2 Insul-Rib IMPs in Regal Blue from Metl-3-inch Span, 10,500 square feet of 3-inch CF42 Striated IMPs in Brite Red from Metl-3-inch Span, and 5,100 square feet of 4-inch Thermal-Space 42 IMPs in Pewter from Metl-3-inch Span. Metl-Span also supplied 18,500 square feet of 6-inch Pewter ThermalSpace 42 IMPs, 4,200 square feet of Silver CF24 IMPs, and 1,600 square feet of Silver and Regal Blue CFR-42 Roof panels, totaling 18,500 square feet.
According to Bruce Forster of Stuart Berger Construction Corp., the project's installer, the owner wanted durable exterior and interior materials. "It needs to have something on the inside to keep it dry because humidity eats ice," he adds. "Like previous rinks, there is a humidity control system, but the insulated panels provide better efficiency."
For the project, one- and two-hour rated firewall components were required. Combining several Metl-Span systems was straightforward, according to Robert Andrus, president of Andrus Architecture. "We had a good color palette to choose from, and the erection time suited into our schedule," he says.
There are stadium seating, figure skating locker rooms, a pro shop, private party rooms, and a personal fitness and sports physical therapy training facility inside Eisenhower Park's Twin Rinks Ice Center.

On September 20, 2014, we urge everyone to come to our state-of-the-art facilities at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County to witness these athletes up close in what will certainly be a wonderful evening."
